Deborah James, 40, took to Instagram tonight to reveal to her 621,000 followers that Prince William had visited her at home. The BBC podcast host has been honored with a Damehood after raising an astonishing £4 million for charity, since breaking the sad news earlier this week that she was receiving end-of-life care after a long battle against bowel cancer.

She wrote: “Prince William came to our family home today!!

“I am absolutely honored that he joined us for afternoon tea and champagne, where he not only spent a generous amount of time talking to my entire family, but also honored me with my Damehood.

“It’s pretty surreal to have a real pop at home, and yes you can imagine the cleaning antics and prep going off the scale, but it was all beside the point because William was so nice and put us all at ease.

“He is clearly passionate about improving oncology outcomes as Chairman of Royal Marsden.

Yesterday, Downing Street announced the news of Deborah’s Damehood in a press release, which read: “The Queen is pleased to approve that the honor of Damehood be conferred on Deborah James.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement: “If ever he deserved an honour, this is it.

“Deborah has been an inspiration and her honesty, warmth and courage have been a source of strength for many people.

“Through his tireless campaigning and by openly sharing his experience, he not only helped us in our fight against this terrible disease, he ensured that many others with the Big C did not feel alone.”

The Queen’s Honors are usually announced as part of the New Year Honors or the Queen’s Birthday Honours, but are occasionally awarded at other times in exceptional circumstances.

After a long fight with stage four bowel cancer, Deborah took to social media to say a heartbreaking goodbye to her followers, explaining that she didn’t know how much more time she had left.

The star gained a huge fan base in 2016, when he was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer at the age of 35.

Deborah is married to Sebastien Bowen and they share two children: Hugo, 14, and Eloise, 12.
